January 5, 2020
Over the years, people – including good friends – have asked me to promote/announce their events. That would include conferences, seminars, speaking gigs, etc.
In 2012, I raised a personal standard that I would never promote/announce any one else’s events, even people I have co-worked with. In fact, I don’t publicly promote/announce my own events or the places where I will be speaking before they take place.
If you came to this page after January 2020, I don’t believe this standard will change. But in the event that it does, this page will be removed.
Keep in mind that whenever I’ve raised a standard in my life, I don’t make any exceptions. The reason is to stay true to my conscience and how I believe God is leading me. But also, it’s deeply unfair to say yes to one person when I have said no to so many others.
However, what I can do — which is actually more effective than a promotion/announcement — is lift you up in prayer regarding your event. I’m more than happy to support you in this way.
One added a word. I do not promote videos, audios, articles, or books by other authors and speakers upon their request. If I did that for every person who asked me to promote their work to my audience, that is all I would be doing. And I would have no time to share my own work, which would be a profound violation of my calling and mission. It would also be a disservice to those who have subscribed and opted-in to receive my work.
I do, however, train authors and content-creators on how they can build their own audience so they don’t feel compelled to bug other people to promote their work on their platforms or spam people.
Note that I do not ask other people to promote my own work. If a person finds an article, audio, message, or book I’ve created remarkable, they will remark on it themselves to their friends without having to be asked.
There’s an important lesson here. If your work is remarkable, people will automatically remark on it and share it with their friends.
For my premium training for authors, bloggers, speakers, and podcasters, which teaches them how to create remarkable work and promote it in non-spammy ways, go to the SCRIBE online training. The bonus resources cover everything on the subject.
Thank you for understanding.
